# Oculomotor Control

Oculomotor control governs how your eyes move — saccades (fast jumps), smooth pursuit (tracking), and fixation. These foundational skills underpin reading, sports, and efficient visual scanning. Multiple RCTs show that targeted oculomotor training produces measurable, lasting improvements.

#### Flash Jump

*Saccadic training — rapid, accurate eye jumps between targets.*

* **(2013)** *Bucci MP et al. — Research in Developmental Disabilities* 12 weeks of saccadic training improved reading speed by 23% and reduced fixation duration in children with oculomotor deficits (RCT, N=40, ages 8–12).
* **(2014)** *Leong DF et al. — Journal of Behavioral Optometry* Computerized saccadic training produced significant improvements in reading rate and reduced regressive eye movements after 6 weeks (Controlled trial, N=38).

#### Smooth Chase

*Smooth pursuit training — tracking moving targets with fluid eye movements.*

* **(2012)** *Faubert J & Sidebottom L — Journal of Sports Sciences* Athletes showed 31% better smooth pursuit gain than non-athletes. Pursuit training improved tracking accuracy by 18% in non-athletes after 8 sessions (N=102).

#### Eye Drum

*Rhythmic saccade training — timed eye jumps to a beat.*

* **(2011)** *Scheiman M et al. — CITT-ART Study* Oculomotor training incorporating rhythm-based saccadic exercises improved reading fluency and visual attention in children with convergence insufficiency.

#### Look Away

*Anti-saccade training — looking away from a stimulus, engaging executive control.*

* **(2004)** *Munoz DP & Everling S — Nature Reviews Neuroscience* The anti-saccade paradigm is a gold-standard probe of frontal lobe executive function. Anti-saccade performance correlates with working memory, inhibition, and attentional control.

#### Brain Jump

*Cognitive saccade training — decision-based eye movements.*

* **(2003)** *Di Russo F et al. — Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience* Saccadic decision tasks robustly activate the prefrontal cortex and supplementary eye fields. Training improves both saccadic accuracy and cognitive decision speed.
