# Peripheral Awareness

Peripheral vision is your wide-angle lens — critical for sports, driving, and hazard detection. It relies on the magnocellular visual pathway, which is highly trainable. Expanding your "useful field of view" improves both safety and athletic performance.

#### Side Spotter

*Peripheral target detection — identifying stimuli in your peripheral field.*

* **(2012)** *Schwab S & Memmert D — Journal of Sports Science and Medicine* 6 weeks of peripheral vision training improved peripheral target detection by 27% and reduced response time to peripheral stimuli by 19% in youth soccer players (Controlled trial, N=43).
* **(1998)** *Williams AM & Davids K — Journal of Sports Sciences* Peripheral awareness and visual search strategy are key predictors of sports expertise. Elite athletes demonstrate wider effective visual fields than novices.

#### Castle Defense

*Peripheral detection with decision-making under time pressure.*

* **(2018)** *Appelbaum LG & Erickson G — Sports Medicine* Meta-analysis of 20 studies: perceptual-cognitive training combining peripheral awareness with rapid decision-making produced moderate-to-large effects on sport performance (d=0.64).

#### Ball Hawk

*Multiple object tracking — monitoring several moving targets simultaneously.*

* **(2013)** *Faubert J — Scientific Reports* Professional athletes learned 3D multiple object tracking 2.3× faster than amateurs. N=308 participants (102 pro athletes, 173 amateurs, 33 non-athletes). Training transferred to improved attention and processing speed.
